kari & david

Sawyer + the Grove is the fulfillment of a long-held dream by David and Kari DeShong, owners of DeShong Design + Remodeling. From the beginning, they envisioned creating a custom cabinet company that combines limitless design possibilities with competitive pricing. In 2024 Sawyer + The Grove started selling cabinets to the public.

In 2025, we are expanding our shop to include our own furniture line! We also have partnered with RW Floors to provide quality LVP, engineered hardwood, and hardwood floor opens to homeowner! Stay tuned for our debut!

David and Kari, originally from Ohio, met in Pittsburgh and decided to plant their roots in Butler County, PA, where they live with their three young children. David brings a lifetime of carpentry experience, while Kari's background as an environmental biologist influences their business practices.

Kari's passion for environmental sustainability has led to the creation of Sawyer + The Grove and their donation pledge, The Cabinets to Canopy Initiative. This initiative reflects their commitment to giving back to the environment and the community.

Fun facts about David and Kari

David

  • Never ate pickles, cottage cheese, spicey anything until he met Kari. He now loves pickles on his grilled cheese.

  • Is an introvert but can let loose to 90s Country or 2000s rap.

  • Favorites: color is green, country singer is John Michael Montgomery, thing to do - cut wood and spend time with his family on their farm.

P.S. if you ask David if he goes by Dave or David, he will respond that he has been called worse.

Kari

  • Studied abroad in Scotland, UK while in college. She was supposed to get her masters at University of Glasgow, then changed it to University of Sydney in Australia, but then ended up going to Ohio University (she often asks herself, but how and why).

  • Is an extroverted introvert (aka ambivert). She loves people and being their cheerleader, but loves to social detox with a good book or a walk in a park.

  • Favorites: movie is Pride and Prejudice (2005), rap song is Gangsta's Paradise by Coolio (RIP), band is Lord Huron, and color is purple.
